As a busy homeschooling mom of 4 kids under 6 who also works, I need to set my household up to run on maximum time saving efficiency. When it comes to cooking I am NOT a fan. I can make some delicious meals but I do not enjoy it. I also do not have much time to devote to cooking. HOWEVER, I am also a semi-crunchy mom who wants to feed my family healthy meals and not junk. So I decided to try out prepped meal box subscriptions. It was so difficult to choose which one to go with though. I realized there is not much info out there. Here is a comparison between a few meal box subscription options.
These meals were very fast to put together. NOT 10 mins like they claim, more like 20. I did like the meal options as well. My family(especially husband) are pretty picky eaters and Gobble had yummy choices. I was so excited to get these meals because they also had great prices! When I received the box the first week the raw chicken in the box had a hole in the bag and had leaked chicken juice all over everything. After cleaning it all up I saw that all the herbs in the box had been damaged and molded from the ice packs. The meals could still be made and were still fairly tasty but I called and complained and they wanted to send me another box to give it another chance. I accepted but on the second box the herbs were still damaged and this time one of the side dishes was in a hard plastic container and the container had cracked. I did not notice it until my husband was eating it and got jabbed in the mouth with a hard piece of plastic! DONE!

Next I tried Home Chef. The quality was much better with Home Chef. The meal options where great. Lots to choose from and they ended up being very tasty. I got Ricotta Gnocchi, Teriyaki Charred Broccoli and Shiitake Mushrooms, and Spinach and Parmesan-Stuffed Chicken. The prices where a few dollars higher for these meals but like I said the quality was better. The only catch with this meal box was the meals took multiple pots and pans and a lot of prep work. It usually took 30 mins just to prep everything. There was not much prepared in the box, more like just the ingredients were gathered and then you have to prep them yourself and they were not simple recipes.

Lastly came Hello Fresh. I have to say I was very impressed by Hello Fresh! I liked that they have a family plan that includes adult sized portions and cheaper kid sized portions. I set our account for 2 adult meals and 2 kids meals and myself(breastfeeding mom so not a tiny portion) my husband, and our 3 kids all ate the meals and there was always leftover food. The quality was great. No problems at all with box or food. I was impressed because with the other meal boxes I would have to use them within 2-4 days before they started looking old but I actually wasn’t able to use the meals until after they were in my fridge for 5 days and I was expecting them to have gone bad and be wasted but they were totally fine! The prep time needed was very fast. 10-15 minutes was all it took. On the family plan the meal options are more limited. I wish there were more meals to choose from, but they were very kid friendly meals and the kids did seems to like them. I am highly satisfied with Hello Fresh and will be sticking with them. This is the perfect option for families!
